Nobuu for macOS

Updated 24 September 2026 · 2 min read

The Mac app is a window around the same local workspace. It carries its own Node 22 and its own copy of the app, so it needs no terminal and no checkout.

On 24 September 2026 it was checked end to end on macOS 26.5.1: install from the disk image, send a first chat, apply a change to a repository, save and open a pull request.

What you need

  • macOS 14 or newer on an Apple Silicon Mac.
  • Apple's command line tools, for git. Run xcode-select --install. Without them, the chat says so before it tries to edit anything.
  • Claude Code, installed and signed in. Chat turns use your own Claude login.

Where things live

  • Saved work: ~/.nobuu/local-product/state, the same folder the terminal launcher uses.
  • The app's log: ~/.nobuu/local-product/state/logs/desktop.log.
  • Ports 55378 (the window) and 55379 (the API). If a nobuu launcher is already running there, the app attaches to it rather than starting a second one.

Current limits

  • The published build, 0.1.0, is unsigned. Gatekeeper blocks an unsigned app on any Mac other than the one that built it.
  • Connectors that the terminal launcher reads from your shell (YouTube, Outlook, Zoho Mail and others) are off in the desktop app. Setting them in your environment does not turn them on.
  • Apple Silicon only. A universal build would double the size of the bundled Claude Agent SDK.
